The Yoshioka Araki No. 123 is a professional Japanese hedge shear engineered specifically for shaping hedges, maintaining shrubs, and managing thick, woody growth. These long-handled hedge shears are designed for leveling surfaces and removing thick outer branches, not for general or delicate pruning of fruit trees.
Handcrafted in Japan by Yoshioka Edged-Tool Works, these shears combine traditional blacksmithing techniques with structural functionality to meet the needs of professional gardeners and landscaping enthusiasts.
Premium Forged Steel & Blade Edge Knurling
The 170 mm blades are forged from premium Japanese Yasugi White Paper steel (Shirogami), highly prized for its exceptional sharpness, wear resistance, and ease of resharpening. To tackle woody, hard stems, the blade features serrations along part of the edge near the base. This serration grips the branch firmly, preventing it from slipping while making a clean cut on branches up to 15 mm in diameter.Optimized for Hedges and Shrub Maintenance
These shears are ideal for shaping and trimming dense hedges such as boxwood, laurel, cypress, and privet. The straight two-handed design allows you to square off large leafy areas and clear away unruly outer growth quickly. However, due to its size and two-handed operation, it is not intended for close-to-trunk precision cuts or selective fruit tree and vineyard pruning.
Ergonomic Oak Handles
The shears are equipped with 450 mm straight handles made from durable Japanese white oak. This handle length provides the mechanical leverage required to cut through thick live growth with minimal physical fatigue.
