The blade, made of Damascus carbon steel containing Yasuki Blue Paper (Aogami), is hot-bonded to the softer steel handle through a brazing process called Rouzuke, combining excellent edge retention with greater structural strength.
Yasuki Blue Paper Steel (Aogami) stands apart from common carbon steels thanks to its purity, being free from impurities that cause brittleness. This characteristic allows it to achieve high hardness levels and an extremely fine carbide microstructure, providing razor-like sharpness. The main advantage is a smooth and aggressive cut that reduces effort while ensuring longer edge retention and easier, faster resharpening.
Damascus steel combines 16 forged layers, alternating hard and soft metals, to guarantee exceptional cutting performance, structural elasticity, and extremely high shock resistance.
The core of the cutting edge consists of a thick layer of premium Yasuki Blue Paper Steel (Aogami) carbon steel, engineered to offer an extremely sharp edge, superior durability, and easy resharpening.
The characteristic grain pattern makes each tool a unique, high-performance piece of fine craftsmanship.
Rouzuke is a traditional Japanese manual brazing technique that joins two different steels to create premium pruning shears such as the Tobisho. A very hard steel blade is bonded to a softer steel body using a high-temperature brass alloy. This process creates an inseparable bond while ensuring exceptional sharpness and a durable structure. This craftsmanship clearly distinguishes these tools from industrially manufactured products.
Maintenance Tip: To preserve the high-quality carbon steel, carefully clean the blades after use and regularly apply a protective oil (such as camellia oil or mineral oil) to prevent oxidation.
